VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT AND YOUR VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION

Volunteer management, volunteer recruitment and volunteer recognition ideas for you…

Hi Everyone

Here’s some thoughts for you on…

THE IMPORTANCE OF RECOGNITION

Thanks to everyone who posted comments in response to Christine’s question last week. You can add more comments or read what everyone had to say at…

One of the most important aspects of staying motivated and retaining both volunteers and paid staff is recognition and appreciation.

THANKS FROM THOSE WHO SHOULD…

Recognition and appreciation can come from many areas but there is one area that is vital and happens all too infrequently. It is genuine appreciation and recognition from those who are direct line managers and in other leadership roles.

Volunteer managers are often very good at showing appreciation and giving recognition to their volunteers. But often receive little themselves from those in management and leadership roles in the organization or group.

LET’S MAKE THIS VERY CLEAR…

So let’s make this really clear. We are all human! The need to be recognized, rewarded and appreciated is a basic human need. Without recognition, you need a really thick skin and great internal drive to keep on going. Every one of us needs to feel valued for our efforts, our skills, our achievements and our potential.

YOU DESERVE IT TOO

Over the next few weeks we’ll be answering some questions people have sent in about volunteer recognition. But understand that appreciation and recognition is not only for volunteers – you absolutely deserve it too!

Adapted from the book full of 501 great ideas… Count on Me! 501 Ideas on Retaining, Recognizing and Rewarding Volunteers

ONE INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE FOR YOU

You really have to look inside yourself and find your own inner strength, and say, I’m proud of what I am and who I am, and I’m just going to be myself – Mariah Carey

From the book Beyond Just Words – that is full of 501 Inspirational Quotes for Volunteers.

Cheers
