Volunteer management, volunteer recruitment and volunteer recognition ideas…
Hi Everyone,
Here’s an idea for you on goals and social media…
We’ll be exploring this and so many other ideas in the upcoming workshops on the Biggest Challenges in 2012. Hope you can join me at these Biggest Challenges Workshops.
SOCIAL MEDIA AND SOCIAL NETWORKING PIECES FOR YOU
Let's look more deeply at some important pieces to add to your range of communication strategies in volunteer recruitment and also volunteer management.
We've all heard about social media and social networking. There are now literally 100s of these sites. With new ones popping up daily.
You can spend all your time just hanging out on these sites. There is also a lot of 'hype' about social networking, often by people wanting to sell you their social media services.
YOUR GOALS AND YOUR FOCUS
So what do you do? You need to start by defining what your volunteer management goals are in using social networking sites. If you aren’t clear on your goals then you’ll waste enormous amounts of time, energy and money. For example, say your main goal is “to use these sites to get people to go to your official website and fill in a sign up form expressing interest in becoming a volunteer, employee, member or client (you get the idea).
THERE ARE 4 AREAS TO FOCUS ON AT THE WORKSHOPS
If this is your goal, then there are 4 main areas of social networking sites to focus on. For everyone joining me at the Biggest Challenges Workshops we’ll be covering these sites and how to use them. But here is something you can do right now.
BUT CLICKING TO WHERE?
Whenever you put links on other sites for people to click on and go to your website then make the link to a SPECIFIC page not to the website homepage. (Unless the sign up form is on your homepage). Why? Because the more people have to wander around the website, the less likely they are to stay on the site, find your sign up form and then finally fill it in.
Remember your goal is about getting people to fill in the sign up form. Why divert them from this and have them wandering around the site looking for the form? Next week I’ll add some ideas for you about the actual sign up page and form.
