Volunteer managment ideas and volunteer recruitment and volunteer recognition

Hi Everyone

Let’s talk some more about FEATURES VS BENEFITS.

In the last couple of weeks I’ve talked about features vs benefits in recruitment material. Let’s explain this further. Could you take these features below and find a benefit? What would be a benefit with the following features of…

1. a shop open 24 hours a day

2. a toy with batteries included

3. a personalized fitness program

HAVE A GUESS – WHAT DO YOU THINK?

1. The benefit of being able to shop anytime

2. The benefit of playing with the toy instantly

3. The benefit of a fitness program designed just for you

HERE IS THE CHALLENGE FOR YOU AGAIN

So here is the challenge for you again. Look at your recruitment material. Can you take the features and add benefits to all of them?

Volunteer Management and Features Versus Benefits in Volunteer Recruitment

More on volunteer management, volunteer recruitment and volunteer recognition for you…

Hi Everyone,

Here’s a question I ask those attending my volunteer management, volunteer recruitment and volunteer recognition seminars, the question is: “Who in the room wants to be only average?”

What would you answer? Now here’s my next question: “Why would you want to be average when you can be extraordinary?”

Many people in volunteer management settle for just average in their volunteer programs. Why? Because they follow what everyone else is doing and that is also just average. To stand out and attract and retain more volunteers, you need to think differently and try different things.

FEATURES VERSUS BENEFITS

Here’s something different for you to think about. Almost all volunteer recruitment material focuses on the FEATURES of volunteering. You need to focus on the BENEFITS and you will stand out above the rest.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO

So what is the difference between FEATURES and BENEFITS? Next week, I’ll give you more ideas about the difference. But here is a clue. Features focus on the head and benefits focus on the heart.

Cheers

Volunteer Management and Expected Volunteer Recognition Rule

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Volunteer management, volunteer recognition and volunteer recruitment ideas for you…

Hi Everyone,

I’m finally finishing off this series on recognition by mentioning a vital point about…

EXPECTED VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION
Expected Volunteer Recognition is recognition that volunteers have become used to receiving, in fact it is pretty much expected. The annual Christmas Dinner or National Volunteer Week Lunch for your volunteers are examples of this volunteer recognition.

WHAT YOU MUST NEVER, EVER DO
With this type of recognition you must keep it going as it is a huge let down for volunteers and their expectations are shattered.

THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY STORY
For instance, for the last 10 years you have sent each volunteer a card for their birthday. This year, you’ve been so busy that it has slipped your mind. You’ve forgotten to send out cards for January to April birthdays. Word gets back to you that some of your volunteers are no longer feeling appreciated.

GUESS WHO IS FEELING UNAPPRECIATED?
Have a guess which volunteers are feeling unappreciated? Yes you’re right. It is those volunteers born from January through to April.

NEVER, EVER FORGET OR STOP
The most important point to remember that once you start sending birthday cards it becomes Expected Recognition. Then you must never, never forget or stop!

Now there’s something to think about!

Cheers
