More Volunteer Management, Volunteer Recruitment and Volunteer Recognition Ideas…

Hi Everyone

A follow-up for you on from the previous post relating to…

UNEXPECTED VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION IS VERY IMPORTANT

For those in volunteer management, last time I suggested using Unexpected Volunteer Recognition, where you show appreciation to your volunteers totally unexpectedly. You can read more about this idea again by reading the previous blog post.

I’ve received lots of emails from people about this and so I do need to clear up some confusion.  It is  necessary that you understand that both unexpected and expected volunteer recognition are needed to show volunteer appreciation most effectively.

UNEXPECTED RECOGNITION IS NOT A REPLACEMENT

Unexpected recognition is not a replacement for other volunteer recognition such as at Christmas time or during National Volunteer Week. This type of recognition is very important. If you always have a lunch or event to thank your volunteers during National Volunteer Week – don’t stop now. You need to keep up the great work of appreciating and recognizing your volunteers at these times.

JUST ADD ONE TOTAL SURPRISE

But also add just one totally unexpected type of volunteer recognition during the year. Such as a thank-you card and an inspirational volunteer quote magnet. Or another idea you want to try.

Why? Because when you add this surprise or unexpected recognition you are guaranteed to multiply the power of the recognition and positive memories for your volunteers.

P.S. The packets of the inspirational volunteer quote magnets are still available. If you order now, it takes 3-5 days to reach you. Plenty of time for National Volunteer Week in Australia…

Volunteer Management and Using Unexpected Volunteer Recognition

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Volunteer management and volunteer recognition ideas for you…

Here’s an idea for you on…

UNEXPECTED VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION

This is the final quick tip on volunteer recognition and then we’ll look at a different topic next week. You can read all the previous volunteer recognition tips and add your comments to the blog too.

SO WHAT IS UNEXPECTED VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION?

It is where you recognize and appreciate volunteers unexpectedly. Many volunteers are used to more expected recognition such as during National Volunteer Week and Christmas time. This recognition is great! But unexpected appreciation is very powerful.

YOUR CHRISTMAS PRESENT

Imagine this! As your friend I give you a gift at Christmas time every year. But what if I sent you a gift totally unexpectedly with a card that said “I know you are not expecting this, but I just wanted to remind how special and important you are to me. Thank you for being my friend.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK AND FEEL ABOUT THIS?

How would feel about receiving that gift and card? Would you feel special? Would the unexpectedness of it and for no real reason make it a wonderful surprise? What if you did one example of unexpected recognition during this year for each volunteer?

You could send a card and pop in an inspirational volunteer quote magnet to say thanks…

Or you could think of many other ways to use the power of unexpected recognition. It is only limited by your imagination.
