Volunteer management and volunteer motivation number four

Here’s your weekly quick read idea on:

VOLUNTEER MOTIVATION NUMBER FOUR

In previous weeks I have mentioned a range of volunteer motivations – altruism, ideology, life changes, etc and I’m adding another one for you now.

I call it the SOCIAL LIFE.

volunteer recruitment social lifeMany people, including some retirees, may be seeking to remain active, mix with others and fill their leisure time with satisfying activities.

Others may be seeking to meet new people or to combat loneliness and isolation through social interaction with others.

You can attract both types of people by emphasizing the social and leisure aspects of volunteering. But be sure to focus on ‘meeting new people’, rather than ‘curing loneliness’. People will talk about volunteering to meet new people, but few will talk about volunteering because they were lonely.
