'HIGH FIVE' WORKSHOP

Conquering The Five Biggest Challenges for Managers of Volunteers Today!

…and we will do it all in just one day!

Now there are no steak knives but...

"You can participate in this LIVE one–day workshop where I will personally show you what are the TOP FIVE challenges identified by managers and leaders of volunteers today. I will then guide you through the very best ideas on conquering these challenges and assuring your continued management and leadership success.

The 'High Five' workshop is your opportunity to learn more strategies and techniques and to provide solutions to those challenges that you and others in the field are constantly facing.

I have spent the last 10 years speaking to, consulting with and assisting literally hundreds of managers of volunteers. From the multitude of issues and concerns they have, there are FIVE challenges managers across all sectors consistently identified.

Now for the first time ever, I am bringing together strategies and solutions to these five challenges, drawn from both the non-profit sector and the world of business, marketing and human resource management.

Gaining the solutions to just even one of these challenges alone would be worth attending this workshop.  But I am going to tackle all five challenges in the one day.  No matter who you are, what sector you are in and what type of volunteer program you have - I  guarantee that you will find great ideas to help you to conquer some, if not all of the five top challenges that you are dealing with.

Re: The 'High Five' Workshop

Dear Friend and Manager of Volunteers:

Are you ready to attend a workshop so very
different from the rest and discover many new ways to conquer the top five challenges?

Hi, my name is Judy Esmond. You may have heard of me, subscribed to my newsletter or attended one of my many presentations.

I am one of the leading experts in this country on volunteering issues and how to gain, sustain and retain volunteers. For the last 10 years I have been working to assist organizations and groups to develop strategies and ‘out of the box’ thinking ideas to recruit, retain and recognize more and more volunteers than ever before. I have presented at the World Conference on Volunteering and been to England, United States, Canada gathering the very best ideas from these and other countries. I have written two of the best-selling books in Australia on recruiting and retaining volunteers and have been commissioned by governments to produce major research reports on Baby Boomer Volunteers and Volunteer Motivation.

Recently, I decided to leave my full-time lecturing position at the Curtin University but to remain in an unpaid position as an honorary research fellow in the Centre for International Health.  I was determined to now devote myself full-time to discovering, presenting and sharing with those in the field the very best ideas on gaining, retaining and sustaining more volunteers.

In 2005, with the launch of my latest book, I conducted a 'sold-out' Australian workshop tour and established my new ‘quick read’ FREE

e-newsletter filled with even more great ideas, that now has literally thousands of subscribers.

I don’t tell you this to boast or brag, I only mention it because I want you to know that I am absolutely serious about helping you and others to develop an ever-increasingly successful volunteer program.

My philosophy is simple - the more great ideas and strategies I can share with you the more successful your volunteer program becomes. And that means more people will be recruited and retained as volunteers.  The more people that volunteer - the better this world becomes!

Often however, you grapple with the biggest challenges on your own or learn only by trial and painful error. Sometimes you network with others and gain snippets of valuable advice and then you give up your valuable time attending training workshops only to find...

Many workshops are boring, mundane and lack innovative ideas. Your time would have been better spent elsewhere!

And still you continue to search for ideas finding that there is not enough useful information or an avalanche of information that as you struggle to digest, still dealing with the same unresolved issues and challenges is keeping you awake at night. But please understand...

You do not need more or less information. What you need is the ‘right’ information.

I understand what you are dealing with – I have represented my country in two sporting codes and know all about volunteering behind the scenes. I have also advised hundreds of managers in the non-profit sector. I have made it my business to wade through the tons of information to find those ‘gems’ of ideas that can truly help you face and conquer the biggest challenges in your leadership role.  So now instead of just providing strategies and solutions to a limited few, I will reveal the very best ideas and solutions to the top five challenges as idenitified by YOU in the field.

Introducing…

The 'High Five' Workshop -

Conquering the Five Biggest Challenges for Managers of Volunteers Today

Beware! My presentations are always action-packed. My aim is to present workshops that provide ‘outside of the box’ thinking full of high content giving you practical and effective ideas that you can USE IMMEDIATELY!

________________________________________

Judy, Thank YOU. As you can imagine I have been to many training sessions over the years. Some good and then others where the participants have done all the work and the facilitator just pulls it together and reaps the rewards! Your session was just great! You never stopped delivering information.

I have been to many training sessions where the whole time I have been thinking of the things I could be doing back at the office. Not the case here. So thank you again Judy.

Judy, thank you for the great presentation, you should be asked to run all seminars/workshops within the human service industry as some can be quite mundane!

What I learnt from you will benefit myself, current volunteers, future volunteers, the organisation and most importantly the people who receive our service.
Again, on behalf of Albany Leisure Network and myself, thank you.

"Okay, so what have managers of volunteers identified as the five biggest challenges?"

Good question.  But first, let's get something clear.

This workshop contains all NEW material that I have not presented before.  It is absolutely NOT a repeat of the information covered in the 2005 workshop tour.  I aim to continually develop workshops that contain even more new, fresh and innovative ideas that have not been presented before.

So here's the outline for The 'High Five' Workshop - Conquering the Five Biggest Challenges

I guarantee that I will cover each and every one of these ideas during this one-day event…

To explain each challenge I have identified them as the Five Rs:

Recruitment; Retention; Relationships; Regulations; and Resources and the top question(s) most often asked of me by managers for each challenge.

Challenge One: Recruitment

How do we continue to recruit even more volunteers?

In this session we will cover...

  • How to determine your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) to attract volunteers
  • From passive to active - the most powerful and least used techniques for recruiting more volunteers
  • Using the 'Three Strikes and You're In' model for recruitment success
  • What is guerrilla marketing and using it to double your volunteer numbers
  • Developing the TOT (The One Thing) formula for all your website recruiting
  • The 10 Laws of all recruitment advertising

Challenge Two: Retention

How do we continue to retain more volunteers?

In this session we will cover...

  • Relationship retention - the best way to keep your volunteers for longer
  • How to turn those short-term volunteers into long-term volunteers
  • The untapped potential of Joint Ventures to solve rural volunteer decline
  • Saying goodbye in style - 11 questions you must ask every departing volunteer
  • 12 steps to make your annual recognition event wildly successful

Challenge Three: Relationships

How do we deal with difficult volunteers? And...

How do we resolve conflict especially between staff and volunteers?

In this session we will cover...

  • How to change a difficult volunteer into a raving fan
  • Why difficult volunteers can also be your greatest asset and how to utilise them
  • How to help volunteers who have been there too long to move on
  • One simple sentence to ensure volunteers will always turn up at rostered time
  • The top skills needed to resolve any conflicts between staff and volunteers

Challenge Four: Regulations and Rules

How do we ensure  we have the most effective policies, procedures and meetings?

In this session we will cover...

  • How to identify and eliminate ineffective policies and procedures
  • How a name change will increase the effectiveness of any committee
  • One simple technique for successful succession planning in groups
  • Why most meetings are useless and what to do about them
  • How to use volunteer feedback to increase the effectiveness of rules and regulations

Challenge Five: Resources

How do we find the time and resources to be truly effective managers of volunteers?

In this session we will cover...

  • Putting the 80/20 rule into action to increase your own effectiveness and give you back time
  • The top 4 time drainers and what to do about them
  • How to delegate so everyone succeeds
  • Low-cost resources that can become your own virtual assistant
  • Creative ways to develop truly time-saving strategies

Just in case you're wondering, I will cover each and every one of these topics and YES you will still have time to enjoy both morning tea and lunch - all included in your registration fee.

I could certainly spend a day on each of these five challenges, but I am able get through so many ideas because I will only give you the very BEST ideas I have found to deal with these challenges.

This workshop is very interactive and content rich with new ideas and material. It's a "roll-up-your-sleeves, get-busy-and-make-it-happen" approach with me. I’ll teach and help you with so many practical ideas and then I will push you even further to get more of your own creative ideas flowing.

Or maybe you'd like to hear some comments from those who attended

the 2005 Australian Workshop Tour?

Here's just a few of the participants who attended last year. They have been kind enough to allow me to share their personal feelings and comments about the previous workshop with you.

Judy, I have to tell you that there have been two one day seminars/conferences
that I have attended that I have not been bored or gone to sleep in, and both of them were yours.

You may not know but in the past I have run marathons and it never fails to amaze me just how energetic you are and to perform at that level all day is a big ask.

Anyway, not trying to embarrass you, just wanting to pass on a compliment on your presentation and energy levels, and I think that what works really well is the fact that you are down to earth and genuine. Which is very rare these days.

Take care.

Many thanks for a terrific workshop. Comments from people here included:

From a former teacher ... "That was the most professional training workshop I’ve attended in years...I gained more from that workshop than from anything else I’ve ever done"

And again from another Volunteer Coordinator at Red Cross... "it was a relief not to have another powerpoint presentation but to have instead, stimulating exercises and mind teasers and real, concrete examples of what we do"

THANK YOU !!!

Judy,

I wanted to let you know how very much I enjoyed your workshop and will encourage anyone involved in the volunteering sector to attend a workshop, or seek out your books.

I learnt valuable new things (from you, and the people at my table), and, importantly for me, you reinforced many of the things I do, and believe in, when working with volunteers. It was like getting a small pat on the back, even ‘though you didn’t know it!
